Our First Camper Trip

Our First Camper Trip

At the Beach Campground

How touristy is it we took our first trip to the beach? Oh well, we needed a nice test run and the experience of pulling the camper and what better way than to use our home as our “motel” on our semi-annual beach trip. We set out with our trusty sidekick Gypsy and Laurie’s mom, making our way to the beach.Beach Spot

Our trip ended up being the standard beach awesome, with the added benefit of full-time RV’ing. We learned a lot, and had a chance to talk with a few other RVers and campers. It solidified the fact that we are going to LOVE this lifestyle.

Things We Learned on This Trip

Google Maps can be deceiving. And, cause you to miss a turn. Where you end up on a narrow road, pulling a 30 ft. camper, causing a panic when the signs tell you the road ends in a shorter, and shorter distance. Luckily, there was a nice spot at the end where we barely had enough room to turn everything around and head back on course.

It will not always be as hard as we thought to find a safe place for Gypsy to run around and get her energy out. Playgrounds are abundant and a well trained dog goes a long way.Gypsy & Laurie at Playground

Our E350’s “Light Off Road Capabilities” does not include even dipping its toes in the sand. We made an attempt to pull our van over on the side of the road. Knowing it was a sandy area, the intent was to simply put one side on the sand, leaving the other side on the pavement. Nope, not happening. The van was “sucked” into the sand full force, right off the road, and sank down to the muffler in the rear. Yes, inexperience combined with evil, treacherous sand made us stuck. Alan now wants a 4 Wheel Drive conversion.

Alas, not everywhere was a sand trap. And, Urban X’ing can still be done with a 30ft camper behind you. The main stretch of road went through an abandoned amusement park. Being who we are, we had to stop and get lots of photos.Water Fall Park
